Critical Care Training for Experienced RNs

Job Description:
The Florida Hospital RN Transition Program is designed to teach and support experienced nurses looking to transition into a Critical Care environment.
This 6-8 week online program incorporates comprehensive body systems modules including anatomy and physiology, various body systems conditions, diagnostics, nursing care and treatment. This online approach provides the basic didactic critical care content with educational activities that is reinforced in clinical experience with a preceptor.

Program Specifics:

Placement Following Completion of the Program
You will be hired with the post-program target unit identified prior to program start. It is only upon successful completion of the program that you will have a position on a critical care unit. Shift assignment is based on unit needs. Your requests will be considered but not guaranteed.
This is a fast-paced, intense course. It requires a commitment to study every night and every weekend. Sometimes a nurse may not meet program requirements, or decide critical care nursing does not meet his or her needs at this time. In this event, every effort is made to place the intern within a suitable nursing unit at Florida Hospital. However, we cannot guarantee job placement at Florida Hospital in an alternate position.
Job Requirements:
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
· American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
o For those hired prior to April 1, 2011:
§ AHA BLS certification is required by December 31, 2011
§ If current BLS from another agency, recertification in AHA BLS at their recertification date.
o For those hired after April 1, 2011, if certification is from another agency, certification from AHA must be obtained within 90 days of hire.

AHA Advanced life support certification (ACLS, PALS, NRP) per specialty/unit requirements (Not a prerequisite to apply. Course offered during critical care training program)
o For those hired prior to April 1, 2011, if current advanced life support from another agency, recertification in AHA Advanced Life Support at their recertification date.
o If hired after April 1, 2011, if certification is from another agency, certification from AHA must be obtained by 90 day evaluation.
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
ACLS, PALS, NRP (based on patient population)
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
· Graduate of a school of nursing.
· For GRN, graduate of an accredited school of nursing
· For all job classes except GRN and R120, unit related experience is required for unit placement
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
· Bachelor's degree in nursing
· For transplant unit, Cost Center 6292, experience as a transplant nurse
· For transplant unit, Cost Center 6292, experience as a PCU nurse
LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED:
· Graduate professional nurses who do not have an authorization to test (seating pass) will have a limited scope of practice as outlined in GN orientation
